A look at The Disney Princesses

The Disney Princess line up is made up of official princesses and unofficial princesses. I am pretty loose on labeling characters as Disney princesses.

Official Princesses

The official Princesses are the princesses Disney mainly uses when using the Disney Princess Brand.

Snow White

Snow White is a very important character in Disney history. Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs was the first full length Disney film, and the first full length animation ever. Even if Snow White wasn't royal, she would deserve the honor of being dubbed a Disney princess for being a big part of company history. She is of royal blood, being the daughter of a king, and she did marry a prince.
Snow White is a kind hearted girl who is gentle and sweet, much like the other princesses.

Cinderella

Cinderella is one of the classic princesses, one of  the three official  princesses made when Walt was living. Cinderella is a great franchise for Disney. There have been 3 animated movies and one live action remake, showing how influential she has been to the company. She is a Disney Princess because she married a prince, making her a princess or queen. Cinderella keeps herself in high spirits despite the abuse she faces from her step mother Lady Tremaine, and her step sisters Anastasia and Drizella. She is brave and with help from her Fairy Godmother gets to go to the ball.

Aurora

Aurora, also know as Briar Rose while hiding in the woods, and Sleeping Beauty, is the third official Princess, made during Walt's era. Sleeping Beauty has shown success for the company, creating spinoffs, including an alternate take on the film called Maleficent, which shows a friendly relationship between the princess and Maleficent. Aurora was born into royalty and she married a prince. She is strong minded and loves to explore the  forest with the animals.

Ariel

Ariel is also important to the history of  Disney. After Walt's death in the 1960s, the company went through an era known as "Disney's Dark Age",during which they had a lot of box office failures (Including Robin Hood, which many consider a classic), (It did have some successes though, including 1981's "The Fox and The Hound"). In 1989 this era ended with The Little Mermaid, starting the new era known as "The Disney Renaissance" which continued through the 1990s with other hits like "Beauty and The Beast","Aladdin","The Lion King" and many others. Ariel is the daughter of King Triton, which makes her and her sister's royalty (Although Ariel is the only official one). Later on she married Prince Eric, and had a daughter named Melody with him. (Melody seemed to be considered a Disney Princess when the franchise first started, but over time was phased out.) Ariel is a brave and headstrong princess that would do anything for her dream to be human,

Belle

Belle is from Beauty and The Beast, which has shown success with Disney. There have been two sequels, including Enchanted Christmas, and there was also a Broadway show. Belle married The Beast (Prince Adam), which made her a princess or a queen. Belle is very smart and an independent thinker who speaks her mind.

                                                              Jasmine

Jasmine is from Aladdin, which has done well with Disney, having three movies and a stage show. She is the daughter of the Sultan, making her official title Sultana. Jasmine is strong and independent, she wants to live a life outside the palace walls full of adventure and fun.

                                                           Pocahontas

Pocahontas is the main character from the film of the same name as well as  Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World. This film was made during the same time as The Lion King, and did very well and won awards for it's hit songs. Pocahontas is most likely a princess for being the daughter of the tribe leader. Her husband John Rolfe is a diplomat of King James, making him a noble and possibly also making Pocahontas one as well. Pocahontas is a brave young woman who wants to bring peace between her tribe and the explorers from England. She even stops them from killing John Smith who she has fallen for.

                                                Mulan

Mulan is the 1998 film from the same name, which also got a sequel in the early 2000s called Mulan II.  She is the only official princess that doesn't have any ties to royalty. Mulan is brave and disgusted herself as a man to help in the war. In the end she helped end the war and was seen as a hero to China.

Rapunzel

Rapunzel is the main character of the movie Tangled and is the first official CGI Princess. Tangled was a successful film, and Rapunzel even made an appearance in Sofia the First. She is born to a king and queen, and is the lost princess of  Corona, making her a princess. Rapunzel is an artistic, playful woman, whose dream is to see the lights that appear in the sky during her birthday. With the help of Flynn Rider she gets to see the lights and learns her place as royalty.

Tiana

Tiana is from The Princess and The Frog, which was also important to Disney history, as it was Disney's comeback to 2D animation. Tiana married Prince Naveen, making her a princess. Tiana is strong and dreams of owning her own restaurant, and works hard to get money to make "Tiana's Place" come true.

Merida

Merida is from the film Brave, and she is the first princess from a Pixar film and the                            first without a love interest. She is the daughter of royalty making her a princess.                                 Merida is a skilled young woman who is great at archery and like Mulan shows that                             women can be strong and independent.

                                       Semi Official

The Semi official  princesses are ones who are somewhat considered princesses                                 by Disney.

                              Elsa

Elsa is from the film Frozen, Disney's most high grossing movie of all time. Her                                official title though is Queen of Arendelle. Years after her parents died, she had a                                 coronation making her the ruler of the kingdom.

                                                              Anna

Anna is also from Frozen. She is the younger sister of Elsa, making her a                                             princess by birth, even though she isn't in line for the throne. Elsa is                                                    queen of Atendelle, but it is possible Anna might have royal duties when                                                  Elsa is away or for some reason is not able to rule. It is also possible that                                   if Elsa does not have a kid, Anna and Kristoff's possible offspring could be next                                          in line.

Royalty

Royalty that is not considered official princesses.

Attina

Attina is the oldest child of King Triton and Queen Athena. Since her father is king of the sea she is a princess, and most likely is the next in line to rule.

Alana

Alana is the daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena, making her a princess. It is most likely her sister Attina is next line since she's the oldest.

Adella

Adella is a child of King Triton and Queen Athena, but it's more likely her sister Anitta is next in line for the throne.

Aquata

Aquata is one of the daughters of Athena and Triton.

Aritsta

One of the daughters of Athena and Triton

Andrina

Another one of Triton and Athena's daughters.

Eilonwy

Eilonwy is from The Black Cauldron, which is part of Disney history by being the first Disney movie rated PG. She is the 12 year old princess of Llyr.

Jane Porter

Jane is a character from the 1999 film Tarzan, which has had a sequel as well as quite a few spin offs. She ends up with Tarzan who is the adoptive son of Kala, who is mates with Kerchek, the leader of the gorillas. At the end of the film, Kerchek accepts Tarzan as his son, meaning Tarzan is most likely the leader of the gorillas, making Jane a co leader as well. Jane is a curious and smart young woman who loves studying animals.

Kida

Kida is from Atlantis and Atlantis II. At the end of the first film she becomes queen of Atlantis and is the daughter of the king. This would make her official title Queen Kida. She is a strong minded woman who is a great ruler for Atlantis.

Kiara

Kiara is the daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala, and is next in line to be queen of Pride Rock. She is brave, strong and smart (Despite what she says in Love will find a way). We helps unite the Prides using We Are One.

Princesses in certain cases

Characters that are Princesses in other cases.

Alice

Alice is not a princess in her film or the remake. She is only a princess in the game Kingdom Hearts, and some songs from her film were in Disney Princess sign a longs.

Others considered Princesses

Giselle

Giselle from Enchanted was intended to be an official princess, but due to likeness issues, she wasn't. She was engaged to a prince, but did not marry him, but is considered a princess by many.

Esmeralda

Esmeralda is from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Hunchback of Notre Dame II. She is a strong minded woman who is kind hearted and caring. She wasn't born royal nor did she marry into it, She married Phebous who is a solider and had a son with him. She could be a Disney Princess because of how heroic she is, similar to why Mulan is a princess.
